this book was a surprise as it had a three page fold out section at the very front, with the tittle page being on the back of the fold bit. i found in the past though that this can cause problems with the upkeep of quality of books as the fold out section can become very dogeared making the book appear tattered, which i would assume is a turnoff. i liked the quality of the black and white prints in the books, it gives the images an impact that they just wouldn't have if they were colour.

the layout of this book i found to be quite interesting each picture being on a page by itself and a blank page next to it. also the images themselves had a lot of depth, even though the subject wasn't very interesting i don't think. the paper that was used for the book had texture to it, should look into the different types of paper that i can get my book printed on.

Re-watching Burtynsky's Manufactured Landscapes

Re-watching Burtynsky's Manufactured Landscapes, an incredible interesting film about Burtynsky and his photographic style and about whats going on in China. Burtynsky draws connection to the natural landscape and man-made landscape. Its really an amazing view into Burtynsky's mind and the nature of his photograph. I have come to really appreciate his work and feel a camaraderie with him because i really enjoy shooting large format. You get a distinct depth to the photos taken in large format that you simple cannot get from any other format. I like the fact that the film itself was more done more extend the context of Burtynsky's photo's, i now know that Burtynskys' photo are more about what you bring to them, and that there is no set meaning to them. your left to your own device's, with your own baggage, as it were, to complete the meaning. the meaning isn't pinned down in any way, there is no singular meaning there are many ways you can read his work.

The Third Mock Up of my Book

Its all printed out. I found a happy medium, printer and scanner were just not cutting it, so i photocopied my prints and enlarged the contact sheets (using the photocopier). the end result is pretty much spot on.

The sequencing is sorted in this one.

Im thinking that i might move the tittle page from the beginning to the middle as this would set my book apart from others, and from what iv looked at it seems to be quite a good idea

the scanner i used wasn't the best, so i need to use a better scanner. Also the scanner i used wasn't big enough to scan in all of a print, find a bigger scanner. 

The print quality of the printer was not up to any standards and needed toner thats why the images are a bit poor.

The sequencing is pretty much sorted meaning it flows how i want it to.

First mock up of my book, I took the contact sheets and used them as the pages.

Sequencing needs work and need more dividers dividing up the sections, i need to finalise the other sections making sure that everything flows.

Also the front cover and the dividers, that i have done so far, are hand written, i should really print them out.

Visit to Kirkleatham museum and Ian Macdonald's studio in Redcar Beacon

After taking a trip to Kirkleatham museum and meeting Ian Macdonald, things have become a lot more clearer. Huge help with layout of my book. Ian's doing some publicity for Redcar and the renovations done to the sea barriers and the new Beacon / sky pier.
