attitude, is the mean thing i pick up from this photo. the subject oozes attitude, its in his eyes its in his pose, the look he would give you wouldn't be anything but dirty. and then we come to chose of clothes i mean you need a certain manner, attitude, to pull of that look.

he's looks as though he knows you, and really dosnt like you, and he's not afraid to show it to your face

basicly he looks a bit of dick, but I'm not about to tell him to his face.

i actualy like the use of a square format camera boarder, surprise, i feel as though i has its place and this is most definitely it.

anyone who claims not to be a critic is a lier..
i wrote all lot about this and had to delete it because i would probable have been physically abused and beaten if i published a post saying some of the things i think about david bailey and his work...
 this is very nice example of how not to take a portrait photo, by which i mean it falls completely out of that category, i know that there are no category in photography, but there are rules. this is to model orientated to be anything more than a fashion photo, its overstated and showy..
thats about as nicely as can put the fact that i dont particularly like david bailey or his work, sorry just not a fan..

some consider his work to be contemporary ( i secretly don't ) and they also believe that he is a pioneer ( i don't think/believe this, and anyone who does needs to look up the word pioneer ) though he has taken some pretty good photo of some very famous people, i for one don't like much of his work..
this is one his better ones as it puts me in mind of Jack Nicholson best role's, basically acting like a crazy person is very hard to do convincingly but Jack dose it very very well, and this can only be a good thing. its the smile you see it a sort of fix manic grin that only the insane and crazy know how to do. (this post started life as a complement, but i think it may just get lost in translation). making this a good photo simple by default.
i really don't like the boarder, a long with many other things that spring to mind...

Commitment issues ...doing the last few update has been an actual struggle, and not just because of the time of the year, but because if the time of day. started at a little after 1am with a few minor tweaks (adding some much needed LABELS, still more labels to come) and worked though some post, which i felt needed more substance, may have inadvertently added to much substance to others, and now at half three in the morning, unsatisfied with whats there research wise for this project. I'm a start adding more post... errm maybe adding more post maybe sleeping ...

is this messy? or is every thing in its place? is this genius? or laziness? these are questions i think of whenever i see a photo of this space, other questions spring to mind, like purpose arranged? or accident waiting to happen? did he know that this would even be considered art? because that is what i would consider this as the space an artist works in to be art, no matter how mundane or in the case of francis bacon unorganised, which is a massive understatement and would fall short of the mark in describing this in any language, text or speech...

every time i look at his, picture i notice something new about them. like im looking at them for the first time. like i am the first person to look at them and feel what i feel about them. i carnt describe it in words, but there are very few photographers that are able to achieve it, but its the fact that he dosent just do this, he dose it in his own style and his own unique way.. somthing i can aspire too..
theres an easy confidence to the subject that can be pick up clearly, even if you didn't know that this one his greatest traits, and not only can it be seen in his face but in his hands and the way he is sat. his suit also shouts sophistication. all these things and more are emphasised by Penn in this masterful photo
huge influence on me and Penn's work makes photography exciting for me

he's capture the mystery of this character.. i mean its unmistakable who this is a portrait of, and he's managed to capture the side of him that everyone gets to see and given it his own twist. mainly with use of the simple. a shadow can change the whole image, for the better if placed in the right place, or for worse if in the wrong place, but irving knows just the way its done, and how to manipulate a photo with use of the simple. he adds so much by adding little..
